Proxy Racing and Cars
I really enjoy Proxy racing and I have entered several in the last few years.
What is Proxy Racing?.......It is buiding a car to a specific set of Rules, posting the car to a central point for Scruteneering (or Tech Inspection), the car is then run in a series of races by guest drivers, points allocated according to finishing position which go towards a grand total for the race series. It is often accompanied by a Concours d'Elegance competition for the best looking car.
It enables car builders from all over the World to compete on an even basis, without the expense of actually being there.
This form of racing is becoming ever more popular with race series being held in America, UK and Australia. A new series being held in 2007 is even more ambitiuous as the series inludes races in the US,UK,Bahrain,Brazil,Italy,Canada,Slovakia and South Africa. It is known as the Global Proxy Race and promises to be a very exciting event.
Auslot Proxy Race - 2007
This is a proxy Race held on Australian tracks, a mixture of wood and plastic for non-mag cars up to 1972. The cars must have a standard chassis, so most cars are Fly Classic type cars.
My entry for the race is:-

Shell is a Fly Porsche 908 and chassis is standard Fly with glued rear motor pod. Very little lead is added. Motor is a Slot.it V12/3 (yellow endbell) with Slot.it gears, axles, bearings and guide.
Wheels are BWA with cut down Fly wheels as inserts. Tyres are front, Slot.it zero grips and rears Ortmans.

This completes the series.
Forums Cup - NASCAR
What I know about NASCAR you could write on the back of a stamp. But one of the guys on SCI suggested running a Proxy race for NASCAR cars completly on Oval tracks so I thought I would have a go.
This is the car I built:-

I purchased the standard Scalextric inline car from Ebay for the sum of £6.75 !, then rebuilt it as above. As stock tyres had to be used in the series it was pointless fitting a high powered motor as it would spend the whole lap spinning the rear wheels. I decided to fit the Scaleauto 18K motor, which has plenty of torque and fair brakes. As it was much longer than the standard Scalextric Mabuchi motor the chassis was modified and the motor fixed into position with JB Weld. Slot.it axles/bearings/pinion and gears were used and BWA Nascar wheels and inserts.
Results
The car finshed 7th overall after 9 rounds

Global Proxy Race 2007
Another great race series, this time taking in five continents, over a nine month period

The car went really well on my track, but seems to have suffered in transit to the States!. In it's first race problems were experienced with both front and rear tyres rubbing on the bodywork and the magnet fell out, ending up trapped on the motor.....Ah well there is always next year.

Chassis - Modified Carrera with Slot.it inline pod.
Motor - Ninco NC5

2006 Auslot Proxy Race
This series was organised by Martin Phoenix for the Auslot Forum.
The cars had to be GT's from 1990 to present date and saw some wonderful cars taking part.
All the races took place in Australia on a variety of different track surfaces from Scalex Sport to wood.
My entry was a Ninco Callaway, modified to comply with the rules:-

The chassis mods included cutting the original chassis to accommodate the Slot.it Sidewinder Motor pod, with a PCB extension to the rear.
The original motor used was a Scaleauto 25K, but I was not happy with the braking, so I changed this motor for a Slot.it 25K. Slot.it Guide, Gears and axles were fitted, together with Slotline Alloy wheels, kindly given to me by Kia Bach Anderson. Slot.it Zero Grips were used on the front and Ortman's on the rears.

The car was a poor performer, but at least kept going when others dropped out. Hence it's finishing position.

2004 World Proxy Race
This Race series was held in America, Australia and the UK.
This was my entry for the event:-

My first entry into this type of event, and not the most sucsessful!, but it was a good to compete against some very good Scratchbuilders.
The car comprised of a very heavy Nissan 300 resin shell, modified with wide arches, (fenders or guards), to represent the cars that ran in the IMSA race series.
The chassis was a scratchbuilt PCB affair with a Slot.it motor pod, 25K motor and slot.it gears. Rear tyres were "Tuna" foam mounted on SCD wheels, the fronts were Slot.it Big Hubs. The car was pretty good to drive, but completley outclassed by the opposition, who were running superb brass chassis.
There were a total of 25 runners in the event and I finished 14th. To be fair not all the competitors that finished below me took part in all the races.
