Scale Slot Car Racing

Magnets are for Motors!

Ferrari 250 "Breadvan"

This is my entry for the 2010 International Proxy Series.

The shell is fibreglass but the manufacturer is unknown. I found the shell at a Swapmeet in very poor condition.

Work on the shell included remoulding the front "Sharknose", cutting out the existing panels behind the front wheels and cutting in sections from a Revell 250 GTO to form the louvers.

New window glazing was made from easter egg packaging and headlight openings had to be bored with a conical stone in a Dremel. Headlight glass was formed from lexan.

Chassis is a modified Slot.it Mercedes Sauber, with a shortened wheelbase and cut down side pans. A inline pod was fitted with M2 nuts and bolts and modified to increase movement.

Motor is a BWA NC1, (as required by the Rules) and control tyres are Ninco 7mm Classics. Wheels are PCS, guide and other running gear is Slot.it.

Paint is Fiat Red Orange and decals are from Patto.

Healey SR

The resin shell of this car is from Penelope Pitlane and represents the car as it competed in the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hour race. The chassis is again from Penelope Pitlane and is a brass sidewinder. Motor is a Scaleauto 25K Yellow can. Wheels and white metal inserts are from Penelope Pitlane. Front tyres are Ninco and rear 9mm's are from John Prince. All other items are slot.it. The car is finished in Conifer green.

Rover 3.5L P6

This is a replica of the Bill Shaw 3.5 L Rover P6. It uses a shell from FF Models, unfortunatly the resin turned out to be very brittle and the lower section of the shell needed rebuilding, also the window struts had to be cut out and new struts made from brass rod inserted.. Following completion of the car I found some photo's of the car in action and it should have had a white gloss roof!.....Wheels and minilite replica inserts are BWA, front tyres Ninco and rears Urethanes from John Prince. The chassis started life in a Scalextric Porsche 962 but has been cut down to fit the Rover. Motor is a Scalextric 18K and all other running gear is Slot.it.

Chevrolet Impala

One of David Reineke's RMS shells. A Chevrolet Impala. Chassis is a modified Scalex "Robo car" as is all running gear.

The chassis was narrowed and the front extensively modified to accept the shortened Scalextric Black Guide. It was also necessary to shorten the axles, by removing

the wheels and cutting off a section of axle.

Rear tyres are Ortman NASCAR's.

Cheetah

I have built this car for my entry into the 2010 Cheetah Proxy Race in the USA.
The shell is RMS from David Reineke, but has been lightened by removing resin and replacing the original resin interior by a lightweight lexan moulding from the 60's.
The chassis started out as a standard Penelope Pitlane brass sidewinder, but has been cut into two halves and rejoined to form a "iso fulcrum" chassis, i.e both halves of the chassis move independantly of each other. Additional brass bracing was soldered to the front of the chassis.
The motor originally installed was a Scalextric 30K , but this burnt out during testing and has now been replaced with a Scaleauto 29K Black Can.
Slot.it pinion, Spur gear and axles were used. The front and rear axles run in 1/8" diameter brass tube soldered to the chassis and due to the short distance between the from axle and the nose of the car a trailing guide from Saksuto installed with Parma racing braids.
The wheels are from Slot Car Corner and are lightweight alloy. Inserts are turned down from Revell Monogram originals and glued to the wheels. Front tyres are NSR Supergrips and rears are original specification Ortmans.
The livery is fictitious on this car but represents what, IMHO, a Cheetah built by the David Piper organisation would look like. Paint is Halfords Mondeo Green and decals are Pattos. The car is finished with two coats of "Klear".

Mercury Cougar

A RMS resin shell of the Mercury Cougar as driven by Dan Gurney.

The chassis is a modified Scalextric NASCAR chassis and rear tyres are Ortman NASCAR.

Interior is from the Donor car.

March Ford 712

The shell of this car started life as a Scalextric "clam shell" model. I first gutted the lower section of all items and then glued the two halves of the shell together, then with a Dremel and cutting disc carefully cut around the edges to accommodate the running chassis from the Scalextric Maclaren MP4.
The wheelbase of the chassis was shortened by cutting the chassis, removing a small section and rejoining with plasticard and JB weld.
The shell was then filled and sanded to remove joint lines, resprayed "Italian Red" and new decals, from Pattos applied. The original Scalex driver was cut out and a new full bodied driver fitted  together with a modified screen from the Maclaren donor car.
The rear spoiler I boufght from Ebay and started out life on one of the  "Ninja Turtle" vehicles!...
Rear tyres are Ortman.

Pontiac GTO TransAm

This car is a bit of a cheat as a Pontiac GTO never ran in the TransAm Series so this is a little "what if" by me.

The body is from a Revell "Snap-Tite" kit which I have mated to a modified Scalextric NASCAR chassis. The chassis was shortened and narrowed to fit the shell. Styrene "Plastistrut" body mounts were made and fitted to the shell with two part epoxy.

All running gear is from the donor Nascar except the rear tyres which are Ortman
