Body Mounting Methods

This is one area that seems to confuse the newcomer to scratchbuilding more than almost anything. I think the problem is that there are many ways to resolve the situation which are equally as good...Let's look at the options employed in Ready to Run cars.

Two mounting points.

This method is used by Slot.it and new companies like Avant Slot, it can make a slot car handle very well as it allows the shell to move from side to side when cornering, thereby ensuring that the body leans in the correct direction aiding high cornering speeds.
The problems with are it is very difficult to set up correctly, i.e. allowing maximum "rocking" but not touching the tyres.
I have used this method on Proxy cars and certainly initially it seems to work well, however after time the screws can become loose and the body ends up fouling the tyres and slowing the car down. With hindsight I don't think I will use this method again on cars entered into Proxy events...It will still be fine for Sprint races.
